With so many different designs to choose from, when deciding on a door style for your kitchen, or indeed a bathroom, bedroom or study can often be tricky!
A ‘Slab’ door style is a cabinet door that features a completely flat panel without any raised or recessed features. It is often referred to as a flat panel door, as is frequently chosen to achieve a contemporary feel.
It is a perfect choice for a kitchen where there is a lot of traffic, as its flat surface is very easy to keep clean. Equally, it will be less likely to show marks as it has no raised detailed areas.
It is often chosen when a gloss finish is required. The smooth surface of a ‘Slab’ door is ideal to showcase a glossy, reflective finish. It also looks sensational in a more flat colour, or when a feature bank of wall units is required.
If required, a ‘Slab’ door can be used to create an ‘in-frame’ look, where the door is fitted within the frame. Likewise, a ‘Slab’ door looks equally at home when it is fitted over the front of the cabinet.
Obviously, a knob or handle can be fitted to a ‘Slab’ door. A slim, long bar handle fitted horizontally can really bring a ‘Slab’ door to life. Alternatively, an altogether more modern approach can be achieved with a handless design, with a concealed handle design built into the reverse of the doors’ top edge or a scalloped handle where a finger recess has been built into the leading edge of the door.
A handless ‘Slab’ door is often associated with European furniture designs, where clean, fuss free surfaces help to achieve a linear, stylish looks. In these instances, doors can be opened via a ‘push to open’ door mechanism.
